Tap Fish 2

Tap Fish 2 game review

Tap Fish 2 is a virtual aquarium game for the Android and iOS that’s very similar to Farmville and Farmtown. You play the caring owner of an aquarium, and your aim is to create the most amazing and exotic aquarium you can.

When you start out you’ll only have enough money to buy very basic and plain types of fish, but as you progress you’ll be able to source more and more outlandish and stunning marine creatures.

To do this, you need to buy, breed and sell fish and use your accumulated money to import and create ever more exotic specimens of marine life.

When you start out you’ll only have enough money to buy very basic and plain types of fish, but as you progress you’ll be able to source more and more outlandish and stunning marine creatures. The breeding aspect of this game is very interesting and unusual – you can experiment with your fish that are not initially available. If you manage to breed these rare varieties, you can sell them for bigger profits than your run-of-the-mill tiddlers (as cute as they are) will ever make you.

You need to make sure that your tanks are clean, and given the high number of inhabitants, this can be hard work. You’ll need to check on your fish every few hours, as this raises their happiness levels. You can also keep your fish happy by making their environments more interesting, so buy them plants, corals, castles and even sunken ships to play in.

Unfortunately, the interface in Tap Fish 2 hasn’t been improved, so it’s quite low-resolution, which is a disappointment in an otherwise visually appealing game. The touch controls are also a bit cramped, which can lead to some irritating slips of the finger. This game could be made even more fun with a bit of tweaking, but it’s important to know how to get the most out of it in the first place. Realistically, all you have to do is buy, breed, sell and clean tanks, which can get boring. You can, however, make it more fun by adding your friends – or other players you meet in the in-game community as neighbours. If you do this, you can visit their aquariums, leave comments, and also earn coins and XP by cleaning their tanks and feeding their fish. This makes life a bit more interesting, and you can get some good ideas for your own aquarium by looking at what other players are doing.

Although Tap Fish 2 is a free game, you’ll find there’s a lot of content that you can only access by spending “Fish Bucks”. This elusive currency can only be had by rating the game on the market, following it on Twitter or becoming a fan on Facebook. Personally, I find this annoying, as I’m a secret fan of these games (I know a lot of my friends will laugh, even though they probably play them in secret too!).
