After coming into contact with them during exploration, a war quickly broke out as the Xelorians were uninterested in diplomacy and took military action against our planet.
Xelorians Demo - Space Shooter screenshots
In this game, you are thrust into the conflict as the story evolves and you fight to save mankind from utter extinction. When you play Xelorians, you pilot your ship by simply placing your finger on the screen and moving wherever you want your ship to move.
Meanwhile, enemies emerge from off-screen at the top of the screen and come downward toward you, shooting bullets and missiles. You must evade them and their attacks as you counter-attack. Fortunately, your ship is always firing in Xelorians, so all you have to worry about is evading attacks and steering your spacecraft.
The touch controls are extremely simple (as stated before) and also very responsive, which is key in a game like this that can often require fast reactions. You can upgrade your ship by picking up yellow pellets called Xelorian Crystals.
These crystals give energy and strength and increase your weapon efficiency to better take on the waves of attackers coming your way. You can collect energy packs, shields, set off mines against your enemies, get extra lives, trigger slow motion to give you more time to react to what happens, or pick up bombs and weapon enhancements while playing.
These bonuses and weapons are always surrounded by a rotating white circle, which makes them easily distinguishable from the white and blue bullets and missiles of your attackers. The idea of making Xelorian Crystals and power-ups or bonuses (which must be collected) easily identifiable in comparison to enemy attacks (which must be avoided) was a smart one, and it makes the game very easy to play.
Another great decision was the pause mechanic. To pause the game, you simply take your finger off of the screen. When you put your finger back on where you left the cursor, it resumes. It's very simple and intuitive.
Best of all, perhaps is the immersive storyline that the game presents. With multiple episodes in the story and some still coming on the way, there is a lot to experience here. The save feature is very helpful as well, and leaderboards help you compare your skills to others around the world.
If you have ever daydreamed about being a fighter pilot in space, evading enemy attacks and weaving in and out while destroying alien ships, this is the game for you. The controls and gameplay can be challenging (there are multiple difficulty levels to suit any player, of course), but are very easy to learn so that you can immediately pick the game up and play it.
For fans of action-packed shooters, this game can't miss.
