Deprofundis Dungeons game review

I remember when I played Dungeons and Dragons for the first time; I thought it was an amazing game to play.

With the funny dice and strange and exotic characters, I used to play D&D for long stretches of time, until one day, I had to give up my D&D and get a job.

Now that I am all grown up, I don't play D&D anymore, but I found an interesting game for the iPad on the iTunes store called "Deprofundis Dungeons" and I have to say that I am certainly impressed with this game.

First of all, this game features network play, so you can play with other likeminded adventurers from around the internet. This is a key feature that should be included to all games of this adventure/role playing genre, so I am glad the game creators included this functionality.

When you first start the game, you will need to create an account on the game server. This also makes it possible for you to restore any in-app purchases you make, in case you change your device. Once you create your account, you can start playing.

Clicking the Play button takes you to the character creation/save data screen. Here is where it gets interesting. You are prompted to name your new character and then for a hint of realism, you can choose the Hardcore mode (if you wish), and this enables the "perma death mode", meaning that if your character should die, then your character is gone for good, your character is deleted permanently from the game.

Although this is rather ominous, it is a nice feature to create a real atmosphere for adventure. If you have something to lose, it becomes a more fulfilling experience. From the character selection screen, you can choose from one of four different warrior types, each of which have a distinct ability.

Once you are happy with your selections, you click the Create button, and it is off to the adventure! One thing to be said of this game - the graphics are phenomenal. I really like the style of gameplay, it is reminiscent of the Diablo style, and I honestly like playing in that format.

On to the game, when you are transported to the game world, you start out in the village, after having been given a quest to perform. You need to go talk to all the people you encounter, especially in the village as they have important information to tell you.

The villagers also can buy and sell items that you may want to trade. As you gain more experience and gold, you can visit these merchants throughout the game and beef up your character. In terms of adventure, be prepared to slash, grab, explore, cast spells and battle monsters.

This is an immersive gaming experience, one of the best I have seen on the iPad for an adventure game, and I am sure it will be a hit with the Dungeons and Dragons crowd.
