Final Fantasy Tactics The War of the Lions game review

In Final Fantasy Tactics you will manage a group of characters that fight for you in a turn based strategy game setting. At the beginning of each battle, you will be given time to customize your party, giving them the right equipment and skills to complete the task and win the battle.

The game was originally released in the late 1990’s for the PlayStation 1, and was meant to be a more strategy intensive take on the popular RPG franchise.  In the game you will battle in the land of Ivalice, as a young knight that gets caught in the middle of war, tragedy and conspiracy.

He and his fellow adventurers not only have to win battles to progress, but to survive.

Each character has different jobs, also called classes, and it is vitally important to develop these jobs as you progress through the game.

Each class has different abilities that come in handy at different times, so it’s good to develop these as far as possible. With each turn a character has the ability to move along the grid and execute one action, to complete the fight and move on, you have to either defeat all the opponents or sometimes reach a specific spot on the map.

As you progress your characters will level up, this will give them access to new job ranks, and more powerful abilities, these will come in handy as things get a little more heated.

No matter how strong your team is though, strategy is still the key to victory, and as such you should use everything you can use to your advantage as you go along.

Every one of your party members will be assigned a specific class. As they rank up they will gain access to class specific abilities, and they are given the opportunity to change to a different class as well. Once they have gone through multiple classes they will have access to a vast array of powerful skills.

You will be tasked with managing your characters once they are on the battlefield, and this is no minute task. They each have a job to do, whether it be deal damage or heal, and they all need to be in specific places at specific times, making sure they get there is your job.

From the get go, this game will be a bit confusing and complex for a firs time player, like pretty much any Final Fantasy game would, but they have included a comprehensive tutorial for you to view that covers pretty much everything.

The music in the game is fantastic, FF games are known for great soundtracks and this one surely doesn’t disappoint. The controls borrow from the PSP version of the game, with the small addition of the okay and cancel buttons on the bottom right corner. Final Fantasy Tactics is an amazing game, it requires thought, trial and error, and pure strategic thinking if you plan on winning any battles or advancing, it’s just one of those games you get completely immersed into, and once you start you won’t want to put it down until your done.
